I’ll show you the kind of stuff I buy at the supermarkets here in Japan. Learn about the products we buy here in Japan and see what they look like. Since I mostly shop at supermarkets and grocery stores I’ll be showing you the food products I buy from those places. There are also traditional food markets here in Japan as well. I don’t shop at those places as often, but if I do buy stuff from the traditional markets I will show that as well. Basically, since I have lived here in Kobe for a long time I know where to buy the cheapest of any product I want. Food is expensive here in Japan so knowing where to get what you want for a good price is imperative to saving money here in Japan. Today I bought yogurt, potatoes, carrots and chocolate mini croissants.
Alright, I just picked up some stuff tonight and I’m going to show you what I got. This right here is yogurt, and usually when you buy yogurt in Japan it comes in a size like this. This is 450 grams. This cost me about 88 yen which is about 1 US dollar. And you can buy sweet yogurt here or plain yogurt with no sugar at all.
And then I got some potatoes. I guess you can see how small these potatoes are if I compare them to the size of my hand. But, yeah, most of the potatoes you buy here in Japan are really small like this. Once in a while I can find the big European size or American size potatoes. And these cost 88 yen, which is again is about 1 US Dollar. And that’s like. . . I think these were on sale. Usually potatoes are more expensive than that.
I got some carrots. And I don’t know if you can see the kanji there, but this says kintoki ninjin, which means red carrots. And I had never seen these red carrots when I lived in the United States. But, yeah, these are red carrots and they’re really good.
And, finally I just got some, these are, they’re called mini croissants, chocolate flavored. And I payed about, I don’t know I can’t remeber, about 2 dollars for these. And they have lots of different kinds of, I don’t know, pastries, like premade pastries you can buy. But it’s a lot different from the kind of stuff you buy in the United States. Yeah, so that’s it.
